What is Business Expenses Insurance?
Business Expenses Insurance can pay your business expenses for up to 12 months to help keep you – and your business – afloat. If you're a small business owner, your business is probably committed to costs that you would need to pay even if you’re not making as much money as usual.
Most people use Business Expenses Insurance for:
- Premises expenses – rent, insurance, rates, security, property repairs and maintenance
- Services – phone, gas, electricity, water, cleaning
- Equipment expenses – leasing or financing costs, registration and insurance of vehicles/equipment, repairs and equipment

Monthly benefit
This is to help you run the business if you are injured or ill and unable to work
Recurrent disability benefit
Restarts your benefit immediately if you suffer the same disability within 12 months – waiving your waiting period
Disability reset
Restarts your benefit period for a new or related sickness or injury
New parent premium waiver
We’ll pay your premiums for six months while you’re on parental leave
Overseas assist
We’ll contribute to your costs to return to New Zealand if you need to claim on your Business Expenses Insurance while you’re overseas
Funeral assistance
We’ll pay up to 4x the monthly benefit to assist with funeral expenses if you die while receiving a benefit
Inflation adjustment
Each year your sum insured can be increased without the need for further medical or financial underwriting
Optional benefits you can choose to include:
Lump Sum Support when you need it. Receive this benefit if you suffer any of 29 specified injuries (ranging from broken bones to paralysis). The benefit is payable even if you are still able to continue working. Check the policy document for the full list of injuries and payment periods.

What type of business is this for?
This can be ideal for business owners who do all the hard yards and generate all the business income themselves. They will still need to keep their business running while they’re off work with a disability or illness.
Does this cover pay some of the income for the business person insured?
No, not with this cover. The business person would also need to take out their own personal Income Protection Insurance.
How long would any business expenses be paid for?
Eligible business expenses are covered for up to 12 months at a time.
